It’s a broad day loot rampant all around these days with the competition amongst the looters as to who can squeeze a customer the most in the matter of charges. The scenario is worst in the case of medical practitioners irrespective of the discipline which they belong to –allopathy, ayurvedic, homoeopathy or even unani. The great thing is that all of them are getting a sumptuous number of customer patients which amply shows that there is no dearth of money at all at their level. Dental surgeons have a typical way of charging their fee. For treatment of a solitary tooth they charge for three on the logic that the adjoining teeth too form the requisite base. How funny? Requisite base is entirely a secondary basis impliedly linked with any tooth otherwise and there can be no logic in charging for it. If one tooth is damaged and requires to be treated or removed why the hell the adjoining tooth be charged for nothing. The most unreasonable side of it is that if the charges for treating one tooth is say Res.3,000/ the amount charged is 9,000/ (1 tooth+2 adjoining teeth by its right and left side). This is a sheer loot and a heinous practice like this on the part of the dentist doctor requires to be arrested peremptorily in the interest of the patients.

Highly explosive is the population bomb:
Of all the threats India has internally and externally what forms a great menace to the country is its population growing at an alarming pace. All endeavours made on the front of economy, development and general growth get diluted in the fast flowing stream of population. Those in mid thirties of the last century talk that population of India during their time was 35 crores as against where it stands now at 125 crores, nearly four times more in about 8 decades. Availability of essential commodities have a direct relation with soaring prices and any imbalance on that count results into an economic disorder. Such commodities being more in demand with every growth in population coupled with a condition that supply is not adequate enough to meet the needs of the abnormally increased population. Next to China India is the most populous country of the world and globally it is the largest democracy with this much of population. Essentially, the need for India is to lay more emphasis with a concerted approach in devising the means to curb the population growth than other economy based developmental plans. This is much more in the interest of the country to attach a topmost priority to the population menace.

Removing poverty is fine lest it acts as an incentive:
Poverty is a curse and it has to be removed at all cost, poverty is an evil and no society is worth its existence if it allows such an evil to perpetuate. Thanks to India’s new Prime Minister Narendra Modi who is all out in taking cudgels against poverty with a resolve to eradicate it giving the issue a top priority in his agenda. But the problem hardly calls for an innocent handling as there is no dearth of toughies grabbing the relief in the
garb of poor ones which all of them are not. One scheme for unemployed poor labour operating mainly in rural areas in the country called MGNREGA (MNREGA) is a sheer abuse and hardly any body works. Every thing from beginning till end is fictitious and there are middlemen involved in the chain at every level. The amount paid for the purpose never reaches the payees in full as it is shared with middlemen. The labourers in turn do not work at all, they mark their attendance and disappear with whatever amount is paid to them. If there is no work what is there of national interest in the scheme and the entire amount can rather be distributed among the poor as a charity. Only poor and not the hypocrites deserve any payment as a measure of some relief work. Why reward toughies for no work? Those who can work must work; those who are genuinely handicapped and are incapable of doing any work can better be paid an ex-gratia but in no case there should be perpetration of a loot on public exchequer allowed in the garb of a fake identity.

Alluring the electorate:
It is an offence, as the Election Commission puts it, to secure votes against money. No problem, all the political parties have their own tools to override the law based provisions. Those of them who are in power in some state or the other in India can very well buy the votes by paying the electorate as a well formulated scheme. Samajwadi Party led government in Uttar Pradesh has announced recruitment of 40,000 cleaners and also a compensation of Rs.5,00,000 to the family of those cleaners who die in course of working in some sewer line. They have also announced a payment of Rs.250 instead of Rs.120 currently to the labour involved. The problem in question has all along been there for several years but increase in number of the cleaners, avenues for employment and amount of compensation look only new ones –thanks to the general elections due the next year that is 2014 which is working as a source of motivation for the politicians to appease a particular class of the community. The scope of employment, increase in the amount of compensation, and payment to daily wagers are a dire need felt always but being generous enough in the context of the elections on the part of the political party concerned give the gestures the shape of a bribe only, it is rather a broad day robbery of public resources.

More annoying than relief rendering:
When Prime Minister Manmohan Singh made a speech in Parliament the other day, the normal expectation was that this would be some thing relief oriented in respect of the unprecedented sort of an economic crisis rampant in the country. It was not. He rather added fuel to the fire when he said that fall in rupee value was necessary and that it was in the interest of curbing the soaring prices. Instead of giving an amenable explanation in relation to the crisis, he unhesitatingly held the opposition parties responsible for the purpose, which badly lacked any relevance. It was evasive and lacked any logistics as normally is the expectation as from a dignitary like Prime Minister. His utterances were more teasing and annoying than rendering any healing touch. The worst was that he left the House in a huff without lending his ears to what the M.Ps from opposition were trying to say. Unbecoming and highly disgustful a gesture it was quite opposed to a parliamentary discipline. Such a typical conduct on the part of the Prime Minister only constrains the common people of the country to believe that there is hardly any ray of hope for any tangible solution to overcoming the present crisis in the country in immediate future, or say so long as the UPA government is in power.

Who says soaring prices don’t go down?
They do too. The graph of soaring prices in the country is upward only in a measure not knowing any stop any where. It forms a joke to hear that petrol rate has gone down by Rs.2/- a litre, more or less as a case of an exception. Our government is more concerned with the interest of the companies supplying the fuel and for that reason they have increased the selling rate of diesel and this is some thing to go as a regular schedule unless the price reaches an increase of Rs.8/- a litre. The petrol price reduction is, for the time being of course, a handy tool for the governmental machinery and the political leaders belonging to the ruling UPA to boast of prices going down. They have a Montek Singh Ahluwalia always readily available to confirm that prices do go down quoting the reduction in petrol rate, and the developmental growth is much higher. You ask the men like this and you get a comfortable answer as from their side affirming down fall in the prices. It is just different a matter when you address your question to the consumers in general who really suffer in practical terms the onslaught of the soaring prices. It depends on you as to who you are talking, one belonging to ruling UPA channels, or the one who is from the public, the people in general. If you need a comfortable answer to the problem, better you address your question to UPA representatives; if you want the real answer, better it is for you to talk to the persons in the crowds. Option is yours.

Priorities on domestic economies:
It’s not just a problem, it is rather a gigantic sort of task to fix necessary priorities on economy front of domestic needs. How to decide on different outlays with their proportionate weightage in terms of the requirement, or one has to go by weighted index instead of a simple one as per definition given in Economics. Going for shopping, how to fix up their serial order in terms of the need and weightage of the respective items, etcetera, etcetera. The problem is of more worsening an order in respect of those whose income is too meagre to meet their requirements. For them, it is not just a difficulty in fixing up the order of priorities, more than that their problem is to trace the very resource for the purpose. In a country like India, where poverty ratio dominates that of rich ones, the task gets further worsened. Fixing up the priorities on economies is, thus, more related to the resource factor than merely serialising it. I only wish that poors in the country some day grow rich enough to have necessary resource at their command capable of enabling them to feasibly pick up and fix their priority order like the elites do.

Market incentives for higher eduction in India:
Reportedly, the 12th Five Year Plan has okayed that the market be permitted to provide higher education earning necessary profit on it. This is obviously with a view to providing the required incentive for a competitive education at the higher level. There appears to be nothing like any big difference between what is proposed to be done and what is already obtaining in full swing in education market resulting into a large scale mushrooming of private schools, colleges and universities, more so during the last one decade. No doubt that there is a cut throat competition, but the private educational institutions are quite able to manoeuvre their sumptuous profit margin at every level callously unmindful of the price factor it costs to the parents of boys and girls pursuing their studies. There is none to highlight the voice of the guardians for every now and then increase in fee and other charges at an exorbitant rate. In fact, what is proposed in the 12th Five Year Plan is only to result into boosting up the avenues for a much bigger a profit margin to the so called education providers, and it has hardly to do any thing with the interest of education seekers at both the lower and higher levels. It hardly makes any difference for those who are having enough of black money, which is not scarce in our country, with them to procure necessary education for their wards, but the sufferers are those who have only a fixed income to support their boys and girls. Factually speaking, the real need is to extend some positive measures through which the parents are able to derive some relief instead of the government creating bigger channels to make the rich people more rich flourishing by leaps and bounds.

Fuel prices on the rise like incessant rain strokes!
One can understand some increase some where in prices with necessary gap time wise, but the way it occurs every now and then in India is unbearably intolerable at the level of consumers. It is like rains in monsoon season, not the first monsoon shower which is pleasant but the one that is incessant and boring occurring for days together as strokes one after the other knowing no stop. Fuel prices rising once in a blue moon, like it used to happen earlier, can be termed as something unavoidable due to global situations changing and as a matter of an exception, but exceptions generalised are no exception at all, they are rather deliberate. The man in silence occupying the top chair in the country as the Prime Minister is enjoying his status as a mute spectator. Well known as an economics pundit with a doctorate on the subject to his credit, he only flopped on the economy front in the country. I don’t think there was ever a position this much worst in India in the past. In the political history of the country, it is difficult to trace any example of such a weak Prime Minister, limping and speechless. It is not the question of fuel prices alone, on every front the present government at the centre under his leadership is on the brink of a collapse, and if such a position still continues further, it is no surprise if the people in general go for a revolt.

Trace a child in you calling
'Child is the father of man', said Wordsworth and a child in every one is alive the whole life of a person howsoever old he/ she grows. Facultatively it is always prudent to get reminded that the child in me is capable of directing my mind in different positive ways. Even genetically it counts and biologically too. Many in old age suffer from the notion that regeneration in the body system stops at the level of advancing age. It is not that correct. May be the regeneration level is not that very effective at a later stage of life but that it stops completely is not true. It holds good in physical terms, more so mentally. Necessary will coupled with perseverance makes it possible that we are able to secure reproductive element considerably rejuvenating our total body system. Rejuvenation is most powerful a Vedic principle since ages and it holds good equally in modern age. Psychologically, if I am engrossed with a problem causing mounting pressure and tension, I am to think of a child in me asking for a solution and the chances are for a positive reply -my mind will be directed to take up the task in a manner a child in me could have taken it up during the early phase of my life, free of malice, prejudice and chaste fully innocently. In most of the cases people are unable to overcome a tension for the reason that their faculties get deeply preoccupied with prejudices on an issue and this blocks the process of sorting out a situation dispassionately. A child is more capable of looking at things in a natural manner without any fixed mind and there lies the key to circumvent a situation.

Problems at times act as stimulants !
Rahim was a great poet who penned a treasure of wise advices using his poetry as a tool for the purpose. Brief but meaningful his poems are a guiding factor in routine life. He didn’t use any big language to communicate his thoughts, he chose to be simple, straightforward and pointed. A mere two line quote of his like ‘Rahiman vipdahu bhali jo thodey din hoi, Hit unhit ya jagat mein jaani pade sab koi’ conveys a truck load of substance. Many a times it so happens that you don’t realize what the situation demands but after a person has to face some difficulty on that count he easily gets alerted mending his ways in a right direction which he/ she could not have thought of doing otherwise without a jolt – a jolt that is capable of cautioning people of an otherwise shape of consequences.
